Kalaheo residence destroyed in house fire

A Kalaheo home was completely destroyed by fire Tuesday afternoon, leaving two adults without a home, according to Kauai County Fire Department. 

One of the occupants was in the house when the fire broke out, but escaped without injury. 

The fire started near the entrance of the one-bedroom home on Ai Road at about 3:40 p.m. Firefighters from the 

Kalaheo, Koloa, Hanapepe and Lihue stations responded to the scene. 

With the help of a water tender provided by Kauai Coffee Company, firefighters had the blaze until control by 4:20 p.m. 

Fire inspectors estimate that the blaze caused roughly $175,000 in damage to the structure and its contents. 

Volunteers with the American Red Cross also responded to assist the occupants. 

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
