Woman sentenced to year in jail for stealing from homeowner groups
The former chief executive officer of a Hawaii property management company is going to jail for a year for stealing more than $134,000 from three Oahu townhouse associations she managed.
Acting state Circuit Judge Paul B.K. Wong sentenced Toni Ann Floerke to four years of probation today for 15 counts of theft and imposed the one-year jail term as a condition of the probation. Floerke, 50, must also repay $134,474 to the owner associations for Kekuilani Villas and Aeloa Terrace in Kapolei and Kulana Knolls in Royal Kunia.
At Floerke’s request, Wong is allowing her to start her jail term at the end of next July, after her 17-year-old son graduates from high school.
Floerke pleaded no contest in August and asked Wong to defer her pleas, giving her the opportunity to avoid conviction. “I ask this court to please allow me to prove myself. I still feel that I have so much more to offer,” she said Tuesday.
Defense lawyer Eric Seitz told Wong that since getting fired from her job in 2012, Floerke has gone back to school, earned her certification as a licensed practical nurse and is continuing her studies to become a registered nurse.
Seitz said Floerke also does volunteer work at a hospice and her church. He said a conviction would prevent Floerke from becoming a registered nurse.

Prosecutor Chris Van Marter asked Wong to sentence Floerke to 10 years in prison.
Wong denied Floerke’s request for a deferral and told her that whatever punishment he imposes, she will still have the opportunity at some point to serve and take care of others.
