State’s smaller islands remain under flash flood watch
A flash flood watch remains in effect until late tonight for most of the state, according to the National Weather Service in Honolulu.
A damp weather system is expected to hover over the islands through the weekend, and Oahu, Maui, Kauai, Molokai, Lanai, Kahoolawe and Niihau were under flash flood watch as of 4 p.m. today. An earlier flash flood watch that included Hawaii island expired.
The National Weather Service said showers and localized heavy rain will continue through Sunday as tropical moisture interacts with a frontal boundary northwest of Kauai.
A more typical trade-wind pattern is expected to return by Tuesday night as high pressure builds to the north-northwest, forecasters said.
