Hawaii sweeps UCSB in volleyball for 21st straight

Junior hitter Nikki Taylor put down 11 kills and sophomore middle Emily Maglio added 10 as No. 8 Hawaii finished unbeaten in Big West volleyball Saturday night with a 25-16, 25-21, 25-19 sweep of UC Santa Barbara in Santa Barbara, Calif.

Sophomore libero Savanah Kahakai had 14 digs for the Rainbow Wahine (26-1, 16-0) winning their 21st straight. It is the longest winning streak for Hawaii since 26 in 2011 as well as its 16th undefeated conference season, first since 2012. 

Jaylen Villanueva had 7 kills for the Gauchos (7-19, 3-12) who hit .074 to the Wahine’s .322. 

Hawaii clinched the Big West’s automatic berth into the NCAA tournament last Sunday. The Wahine will have the week off and await next Sunday’s selection show.
