Lanes on South Street in Kakaako are closed to film a scene from the television series “Hawaii Five-0.”

Filming for the television series “Hawaii Five-0” will close three lanes of Kalakaua Avenue in Waikiki tonight.

A crew is filming a special effects sequence, which will require up to three lanes to be closed between Saratoga Road and Lewers Street between 8 p.m. and 3 a.m., the city announced in a news release.

The stars of the TV show will not be part of the filming.

At 8 p.m., the two makai lanes of Kalakaua Avenue between Saratoga Road and Lewers Street will be closed along with the bike lane.

Saratoga Road will remain open and drivers will be able to turn right from Kalakaua Avenue onto Saratoga Road. Drivers heading mauka-bound on Saratoga Road must go forward, crossing Kalakaua Avenue.

A contraflow lane will be set up on Kalia Road to allow access to Beachwalk Road.

Another contraflow lane will be set up on Lewers Street to allow travel in both directions to help traffic flow through the area.

TheBus will not be detoured and will travel along its normal routes.

At 9 p.m., a third lane on Kalakaua Avenue will be closed, leaving the mauka-most travel lane open for drivers who must pass through the area.

Starting at 10 p.m. through 3 a.m., intermittent traffic control will be conducted in the mauka-bound travel lane of Kalakaua Avenue. Drivers will be asked to wait for a few minutes while a complex shot for a visual effect is done, then traffic will be released in the one mauka-bound lane and allowed to flow until the next shot is set up.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area if possible, take alternate routes, and anticipate delays.

The scene being shot tonight will be part of an episode scheduled to air on April 8.
