Work furlough inmate fails to return to Laumaka facility

Honolulu police and state sheriffs are looking for a work furlough program inmate who failed to return from a furlough pass today.

Albert Kalakau, 51, left the Laumaka Work Furlough Center this morning to look for work but failed to return to facility as scheduled in the afternoon.

Kalakau was serving time for second-degree attempted theft and unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle. Authorities said they expect to charge him with second-degree escape when he is captured. His next parole hearing is scheduled for March 2016.

Kalakau is classified as community custody which is the lowest custody level. He is described as 5-foot-2 and 138 lbs with brown hair and brow eyes.

Anyone with information about Kalakau’s whereabouts is asked to call 911.
