Damaged trees close Haleakala campground, trail
The National Park Services has closed the Hosmer Grove Campground and nature trail on Maui in the Kīpahulu area of Haleakala National Park until further notice due to hazardous trees.
Hosmer Grove, which can accommodate up to 50 campers, is located just below the 7,000-foot level in the summit area. Park officials have contacted a tree inspector to evaluate the trees.
The pools of Ohe‘o remain closed due to continued storm drainage from Tropical Storm Darby. All other park facilities, visitor centers, campgrounds, restrooms and trails are open.
