Rainbow Wahine picked first in Big West volleyball poll

Members of the Hawaii volleyball team rushed the court at Reed Arena after defeating Texas A&M in three sets to advance to the next round of the NCAA Volleyball Tournament, in Dec. 2015 in College Station Texas.

The University of Hawaii women’s volleyball team was the unanimous choice to repeat as Big West champion, according to today’s preseason coaches poll.

The Rainbow Wahine (29-2, 16-0 Big West in 2015) received all nine first-place votes for 81 points. Long Beach State was second (68 points) followed by Cal Poly (66).

Rounding out the poll were UC Irvine (47), UC Davis (44), UC Santa Barbara (39), CSUN (29), UC Riverside (20) and Cal State Fullerton (11).

Hawaii opens the season in the Chevron Invitational on Aug. 26 against Wisconsin.
