Tropical Storm Kay, the 11th named storm of the East Pacific hurricane season, formed off Mexico overnight.

The storm could strengthen today, but is expected to move over cooler waters this weekend and degenerate into a remnant low next week as it moves northwest into the open ocean.

It’s not a threat to land and shouldn’t have an impact on Hawaii’s weather.

At 11 a.m., Kay had sustained winds of 45 mph and was moving northwest at 7 mph, about 45 miles west of Socorro Island and 305 miles south-southwest of Baja California.
