Bronze isn’t gold, but still impressive

It was agonizing to watch the U.S. men’s volleyball team succumb to Italy in Friday’s semifinal round, especially since the Americans at one time were just three points away from winning and advancing to the gold medal match. But alas, Italy rebounded with six points in a row to claim victory in the pivotal fourth set, then went on to win it in the fifth.

The U.S. men’s team — with eight first-time Olympians, including Hawaii’s Micah Christenson and brothers Kawika and Erik Shoji — has clawed its way to medal contention after a slow start. On Sunday, U.S.A. won’t be going for gold, but instead, will be playing for bronze. Time to set the DVR for 8:30 a.m. Eastern time, or check TV listings for any delayed telecast.

Just the fact that they made it to the Olympics is in it self a major accomplishment ….any wins or medals is icing on the cake….going to the Olympics is going to be major event that the players will remember for the rest of their lives…..
