Stein brings activism, but no wins, to outsider 2016 contest

RICHMOND, Va. >> Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein has wasted no time trying to swoop in on Bernie Sanders’ political revolution.
She saw a fresh opportunity to woo progressives, climate activists and young radicals when Sanders left the race and threw his support behind Hillary Clinton.
But Stein has largely been unable to draw crowds quite matching the throngs of angry voters that flocked to her outside the Democratic National Convention.
The 66-year-old Stein is a doctor by training who’s only ever been elected as a town meeting member in Lexington, Massachusetts — a position requiring a few hundred votes.
In 2012, her presidential bid couldn’t crack 500,000 votes.
Stein acknowledges she’s not really hoping to win the presidency. Instead, she wants to continue to build the legitimacy of the Green Party.

Never Trump!
I was thinking of voting for Stein but I have decided to vote for Hillary. I think it is important to really beat the republicans by a lot after they put up such an insulting candidate. Hillary, don’t blow it by getting us involved in another never ending war. Give peace a chance.
Stein hasn’t the experience or the platform to attract others outside of “greenpeace” types, even though she’s an intelligent, sincere, and honorable candidate, who, when compared to Hillary, would actually be a woman we could all respect as president.
Stien has a hilarious platform, if she wins everyone should by multi million dollar homes and never pay your mortgage, she’ll fight for you. I’ll go with the other third party candidate who cycled 70 miles today because shame on both major parties for sending us the two worst candidates ever. Let’s see one has led a life of crime and the other has too many bankruptcies to be President. I’ll go for a healthy businessman who is also a 2 term governor, Gary Johnson.

Totally agreed. But in light of the current situation, there will come a time, real soon, when we’ll have to decide whether to go ahead and vote for Gary or support one of the two dufuses. That’s going to be a much tougher choice than lightweight observation would have everyone believe. There are ideological and practical considerations that have to be weighed carefully, which overshadow simply picking the “lesser of two evils”. Of course voting here is all but meaningless, as our electoral contribution always goes to the democrats. That alone is a solid reason to prop up Johnson’s numbers, as well as the clean feeling down the road of having done what our consciences demanded.
