  • COURTESY DAVID YURMAN

New Year’s Eve is a time to sparkle, and depending on your style, budget and need for attention, you can add a small touch of glimmer to acknowledge the special occasion or come on like fireworks.

Over at Sedona at Ward Centre, the Spongelle Shimmer Collection offers a brilliant take on the soap-on-a-rope concept. In this incarnation, a shimmer “buffer” exfoliates and cleanses skin with a body wash containing edelweiss, vetiver and yuzu extracts to soothe and soften. The best part is that the buffer leaves shimmering traces of mica on the body for an easy glow on a special night out.

It’s available in rose gold Brilliant Tuberose, silvery Pearl Blossom and Radiant Amber gold colors, at a cost of $29.96 each. Call 591-8010.

Meanwhile, in Ala Moana Center’s Ewa Wing, the David Yurman boutique is home to the jewelry designer’s fall Supernova collection, with an array of designs that resemble the bloom of exploding fireworks or sparklers. The diamond-studded pieces start at $4,200.

WELCOME 2017 WITH ‘LUCKY’ BARGAINS

Bring some extra luck into your new year with fukubukuro, the Japanese shopping tradition of purchasing “lucky bags” of merchandise sold for at least half their retail value on New Year’s Day. Bags are sealed to bring a sense of excitement and surprise to the event.

>> Ala Moana Center: More than 80 center retailers will be offering “happy grab bags” between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Jan. 1. Early arrival is recommended because bags typically sell out quickly. All sales are final. Visit AlaMoanaCenter.com for a list of participants.

>> International Market Place will get a jump start on the celebration, offering its lucky bags beginning 10 a.m. Saturday on New Year’s Eve, and into New Year’s Day, while supplies last. Among 18 retailers offering the 50 percent off bags will be 45R, Crazy Shirts, Fabletics, Godiva, Saks Fifth Avenue, L’Occitane en Provence, and Maui Divers Jewelry.

>> Royal Hawaiian Center: The fukubukuro promotion begins at 10 a.m. Jan. 1, with more than 30 stores and restaurants participating. Shoppers can expect to find a varied mix of accessories, handbags, beauty products or clothing based on each merchant’s specialties.

>> T Galleria by DFS: The retailer’s fukubukuro event starts 9 a.m. New Year’s Day with a limited quantity of bags priced at a 70 percent discount.

In addition, the first 500 customers to enter the T Galleria by DFS Waikiki store on Jan. 1 will receive a $20 DFS gift certificate, starting at 8:30 a.m. Must be 18 or older to receive the certificate, and only one per person will be distributed. Adults can enter to win a $1,000 gift certificate via same-day drawings at 10:30 a.m. and 12:30, 2:30, 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. on the third floor. Must be present to win.

Then from 8 to 10 p.m., meet Hawaii lifestyle designer Kaypee Soh and receive a gift with any purchase of Kaypee Soh products.
