Firefighters extinguished a large fire that destroyed a home in Laie.

Shortly before 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, 35 firefighters responded to the fire at a single-story home located at 56-743 Kamehameha Highway. When the first unit arrived, they observed the structure engulfed in flames, said Honolulu Fire Spokesman Capt. David Jenkins.

Firefighters brought the fire under control by 11:59 p.m. and extinguished the blaze by 12:55 a.m. today.

Jenkins said the home was unoccupied at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and damage to the structure is estimated at $150,000. Jenkins said the structure is considered to be “a total loss.”
