Robbery of cabdriver leads to man’s arrest

Police on Wednesday arrested a 24-year-old man indicted Aug. 2 in connection with the July 28 robbery of a cabdriver in Kalihi.

Levi Fau Jr. was arrested near the airport for allegedly having punched the driver. His bail was set at $75,000.

An Oahu grand jury indicted Fau and Samson Isaako on Aug. 2 on charges of first-degree robbery.

The state alleges a female passenger initiated the robbery by shifting the taxi’s transmission into park. She then allegedly pinned the driver to his seat and demanded money.

Isaako allegedly approached from another vehicle and put a knife to the driver’s neck, demanding money. Fau allegedly came from the same vehicle and punched the driver.

The female passenger got out and the taxi driver accelerated to escape. Isaako allegedly drove after the taxi driver in his own vehicle and crashed into the cab.

Suspect charged with robbing tourist

A 37-year-old man has been charged with allegedly robbing a Japanese visitor in Waikiki.

Gabriel M. Stan was charged Tuesday with first-degree robbery. His bail was set at $50,000.

Shortly after 10:30 p.m. Monday, police said a suspect later identified as Stan approached the visitor, 19, and brandished an unspecified dangerous instrument while trying to take the woman’s bag.

The victim was dragged as she held onto her property, causing abrasions to her knees.

Police located Stan in Waikiki just after 1:10 a.m. Tuesday and arrested him. The victim’s bag was recovered nearby.

Stan has a criminal record of felony assault and open lewdness, a petty misdemeanor.
