Haena State Park on Kauai’s north shore and the popular Kalalau Trail in the Na Pali Coast State Wilderness Park were closed this afternoon because of a nearby wildfire, state officials said.

Fire supervisors from the state Department of Land and Natural Resources’ Division of Forestry and Wildlife said the fire, first reported early this morning, is burning mostly on a steep ridge between the Haena State Park boundary and Limahuli valley.

Two helicopters are making water drops on the flames, and two engines and firefighters from DOFAW are on the scene. Two DOFAW staff are on the trail to warn hikers to stay put.

The cause of the fire remained unknown.
