Arnel Pineda, lead singer of Journey, will be performing a solo concert at the Blaisdell Arena in December.

Arnel Pineda, who went from club singer in the Philippines to international rock star as lead singer of Journey, will give a solo benefit concert at Blaisdell Arena in December.

Tickets for the Dec. 16 concert are priced at $69 to $99 and go on sale at 9 a.m. Friday at the Blaisdell Box Office, online at ticketmaster.com or by phone at 800-745-3000.

Pineda was frontman for several contest-winning bands in the Philippines in the late 1980s and ’90s. Videos of his band The Zoo posted on YouTube in 2007 caught the attention of Journey singer and guitarist Neal Schon, who invited Pineda to audition. The group had had several lead singers since original frontman Steve Perry left in 1996. Pineda has been the band’s lead singer ever since, appearing on several albums that reached the Billboard charts.

Pineda will sing 24 of his favorite tunes, including hits like “Jump” by Van Halen, “Live and Let Die” by Paul McCartney and “Message in a Bottle” by the Police.

The concert will be a benefit for Katipunan Inc., an organization that promotes civic education and citizenship and helps immigrants assimilate into American life. Organizers cited Hawaii’s large Filipino population as one of the attractions for Pineda to perform here.
