Peter Grewer was arrested for suspicion of murder in the second degree after he allegedly killed a woman found dead in her home on Tuesday.

Kauai police arrested Peter Grewer, 62, of Omao, after he allegedly killed a woman found dead in her home on Tuesday.

The victim has been identified as 67-year-old Joellen Hartman.

Police arrived at Hartman’s home on Punee Road shortly after 4 p.m. Tuesday to conduct a welfare check. When they arrived they found that Hartman had apparently died from injuries as a result of an assault.

A preliminary investigation led to the arrest of Hartman’s tenant, Grewer, for suspicion of murder in the second degree.

Grewer remains in police cellblock in lieu of $1 million bail.

The case remains under investigation.
