Arrest made in connection with Kahekili crash

Honolulu police arrested a 24-year-old man wanted in connection with a spectacular crash on Kahekili Highway on Tuesday that involved a stolen pickup truck.

Nainoa Neill-Mesiona was located Thursday in Waikiki and arrested on multiple warrants.

Neill-Mesiona is believed to have been the driver of the truck, which was stolen in Aina Haina on Tuesday. Police identified the truck and followed it from Wahiawa to Temple Valley when it veered off the highway, hit a pole and flipped over multiple times.

Police said Neill-Mesiona fled the scene on foot and was somehow able to evade a subsequent search.

Honolulu Police Department Deputy Chief John McCarthy said Thursday that Neill-Mesiona likely had help.

“He didn’t walk (to Waikiki),” McCarthy said.

Neill-Mesiona was arrested on two parole-revocation warrants and three contempt warrants and was being held in lieu of $40,000 in aggregate bail. As of Thursday, he had not yet been charged in connection with the theft of the truck.

McCarthy said Neill-Mesiona was treated at The Queen’s Medical Center for a minor injury sustained in the crash before he was arrested.

License examiner charged in alleged assault

A retired Honolulu Police Department sergeant who had been working as a driver’s license examiner was arrested Thursday for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman during a road test.

Corbett Roy, 59, was charged with three counts of fourth- degree sexual assault and a single count of harassment. He was released after posting $1,000 in aggregate bail.

The abuse allegedly occurred on Sept. 20 during a road test administered in Kaneohe.

The victim initially complained at the driver’s licensing center. She later filed a police report.

HPD Deputy Chief John McCarthy confirmed on Thursday that Roy had served with the department for 31 years, mostly as a patrol officer. Roy retired as a sergeant in 2011 and stayed on as a reserve-duty officer until last year. Roy has no prior arrests.
