The ACLU should be commended for standing up to the Roman Catholic Church regarding bullying tactics against residents of the Kahala Nui retirement home (“ACLU accuses Kahala Nui retirement home of discrimination for its ban on medically assisted death,” Star-Advertiser, Nov. 2).
I have recently come to appreciate the excellent work of the ACLU when it opposed the racial tactics of President Donald Trump in the original Muslim immigration ban.
Individuals and organizations are free to practice their religious beliefs, but not when those beliefs turn into intimidation or worse against non-believers, particularly when the government has authorized an accepted medical practice.
