Thank you for highlighting the need for financial literacy (“Dollars & Sense,” Star-Advertiser, Insight, Nov. 25).

Hawaii’s public schools should make financial literacy education a high school core requirement. Then if these young adults decide to enter politics someday, they’ll have the required knowledge to understand the importance of budgeting, cost overruns, contingency plans and the common sense to deem a project cost-prohibitive to his or her Hawaii constituents.

It’s not a wonder we as a state received an “F” for finance.
