Tuesday May 16, 2017 A new gate, locked, has been put up at the access path to the beach at Portlock and the surf spot known as “Seconds.” Gate is on the 300th block of Portlock Road. This is access lane on the beach side.

I have no connection with either Bert Dohmen-Ramirez or the beach-access lane next to his Portlock property (“Portlock gate issue could be resolved soon,” Star-Advertiser, Dec. 4). However, the world changes, times change. The lanes were established many years ago during a “kinder, gentler” time with a much smaller population and no drug addicts or trash leavers everywhere one goes.
I’m a historian. I know what it’s like to pine for the old days and how things used to be — but sometimes one has to be realistic and deal with what actually is versus what one wants. I hope the lawyers will make a decision considering that reality.
