Hawaiian Telcom is the only local company actively deploying broadband to rural areas in Hawaii (“Hawaiian Tel should expand service,” Star-Advertiser, Letters, Dec. 8).
Since 2010, Hawaiian Telcom has invested more than $500 million in expanding our next-generation fiber network and systems. Our recent combination with Cincinnati Bell enables us to invest an additional $20 million into this statewide network over the next four years.
While we offer internet service to the vast majority of urban areas statewide, like all providers, we encounter pockets that are extremely difficult to serve for reasons that include limited infrastructure and access restrictions on private and military- owned properties.
As our past and ongoing investments demonstrate, we are committed to continuing to expand broadband availability in Hawaii. Anyone who is interested in our services is encouraged to call us to discuss their options.
