It was quite perplexing to read the article, “Hawaii left out of federal DOT grants” (Star-Advertiser, Dec. 13), indicating that only Hawaii, of all 50 states, failed to obtain any additional federal funds for transportation infrastructure. This apparent missed opportunity for funding might lead our citizens to ponder exactly what our current delegation is accomplishing for us in Washington.

Pouting like angry children holding their breath until they pass out, coupled with the ready use of crude language in public, are apparently not fruitful strategies to assist Hawaii. Their approach seems to be to maximize every opportunity to vent their anger at Donald Trump, while missing opportunities to obtain sorely needed transportation infrastructure long-term benefits (and jobs) for their constituents.

Perhaps the answer might lie in the key words within the article itself: “ripe for bipartisan cooperation”?
