Woman, 49, dies in police custody after alleged erratic behavior
A 49-year-old woman died Wednesday morning in police custody after she allegedly assaulted a friend on Tuesday in a Wahiawa apartment.
The Honolulu Police Department said that officers responded to the report of a woman acting erratically after allegedly assaulting a friend and damaging property at about 2 p.m. Tuesday.
Officers called an ambulance after the woman exhibited erratic behavior.
She, however, refused to leave the apartment. She became unresponsive after police restrained her and escorted her out of the unit.
Police turned over the woman’s care to Emergency Medical Services and Honolulu Fire Department personnel. She was taken to a hospital, where she died Wednesday morning.
Police have opened an unattended death case, along with third-degree assault and harassment investigations.
