I agree that our short-term rental rules need to be updated to reflect the changing travel trends. However, I’m disappointed that our elected leaders continue to use short-term rentals as scapegoats for our housing affordability challenges at the expense of focusing on the systematic cause of the problem — a lag in housing construction.
Short-term rentals have always been part of our economy, and they will continue to be for years to come. We won’t solve the housing problem by banning short-term rentals. Let’s pass reasonable rules that acknowledge this and instead focus on closing the gap between demand and supply.
