Lee Cataluna is right on in her column about the “dirty details” surrounding the Kealoha mess when she asks, “Why didn’t anybody know?” (“Who has the time for all that (allegedly)?,” Star-Advertiser, Feb. 15).
I’ll tell you why. The local media, the Star-Advertiser in particular, continues to turn a blind eye regarding local political shenanigans rather than initiate their own in-depth investigative reporting, that’s why. Rather than dig, they simply report.
There are many crooked behind-the-scenes things going on in our community that need serious scrutiny, including the whole city Prosecutor’s Office situation for starters, and the enormous rail transit fiasco that surely is rife with gross incompetence, lies, bribes, kickbacks and more. Why do we have to wait for the feds to come in and drain the swamp?
Obviously, the so-called “fourth estate” isn’t working in Hawaii.
Lord knows we could use some award-winning investigative reporting from our “Pulse of Paradise” daily newspaper, but don’t hold your breath.
