Mahalo for including the photo online of ugly overhead power lines next to ugly rail columns along Kamehameha Highway, in David Shapiro’s column (“We can’t fix Honolulu rail by denying its obvious ills,” Star-Advertiser, Volcanic Ash, March 3).
The photo begs the question: Is there a plan to relocate or hide power lines within rail infrastructure, to eliminate those unsightly tall power poles that have for so long been such a hideous visual blight on Hawaii’s landscape?
As rail is inevitable, all effort should be made to mitigate or eliminate negative visual impacts as part of the rail planning process.
