Honolulu Police Commission gives Chief Susan Ballard high marks for first year

Honolulu Police Chief Susan Ballard appeared in front of the Police Commission on Wednesday, March 20, 2019, to talk about the lawsuit against her that resulted in a $550,000 settlement payment to a 32-year veteran police officer who alleged in that 2009 lawsuit that Ballard, then a major, tampered with test scores for recruits.

The Honolulu Police Commission gave Police Chief Susan Ballard five “exceeds expectations” and two “meets expectations” grades on her first-year evaluation, which was shared with Ballard Wednesday at HPD headquarters. Also at the meeting, the commission voted to provide legal counsel in one criminal case against former Police Chief Louis Kealoha.
