Waikiki residents have been punished enough by the proliferation of street closures.
The legacy events like the recent Honolulu Festival and others are great events and draw visitors year in and year out for multiple days.
The result is the business community and employees are rewarded financially.
The street festivals, which are entry-level lottery-based events, are like Legacy 101: sort of a way to prove their worth as a event organizer to our community and business owners as well as the city.
All of the street festivals I’ve seen are incidental and have no cultural value that might drive long-lasting value to our community.
It’s our neighborhood and we have the right to make the decision, not outsiders.
Please allow only four lottery dates. And make them pay the Honolulu Police Department up front as well.
