2 men injured in Kalihi shooting

Honolulu police earlier shut down Mokauea Street in both directions between Colburn Street and Dillingham Boulevard to investigate a shooting that injured two people.

A 53-year-old man is in serious condition and a 23-year-old man suffered minor injuries today following a shooting in Kalihi.

Honolulu police reopened Mokauea Street around 4 p.m. in both directions between Colburn Street and Dillingham Boulevard to investigate the shooting, which occurred at about 12:05 p.m. in the area of 529 Mokauea Street.

Honolulu Emergency Medical Services responded and treated the 53-year-old man who sustained a gunshot wound to the leg. He was taken to a hospital in serious condition.

The second man, 23, was also taken to the hospital in stable condition after he sustained minor injuries.

It is unclear at this time how the second man was involved in the shooting and whether the two men knew each other.

Kalihi Kai Elementary School and Kalakaua Middle School went into lockdown at 12:15 p.m. as a precautionary measure. The lockdown was lifted at 12:30 p.m.
