Senate panel recommends reappointment of Suzanne Case to lead Hawaii land department

CINDY ELLEN RUSSELL / Sept. 27, 2018

A state Senate panel recommended today that Suzanne Case, director of the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources, be reappointed to another term.

The Senate Committee on Water and Land voted today to advise the full Senate to reconfirm Suzanne Case to another four years as chairwoman of the Board of Land and Natural Resources and director of the Department of Land and Natural Resources.

The unanimous vote followed several hours of testimony from supporters and opponents, as well as questions from senators that focused on DLNR’s management of short-term permits and leases for water and land, management of lessees at Kahana Valley State Park, Mauna Kea, feral cats and other contentious issues that have faced the department.

The committee also voted unanimously to approve Robert Masuda as DLNR’s deputy director.

Gov. David Ige’s nominations will now go to the full Senate for approval.
