Starting Monday, city officials will reinstate afternoon contraflow coning and allow left turns at some intersections of Kapiolani Boulevard, but not at Atkinson Drive.

City officials are making the changes based on the findings of the Kapiolani Boulevard contraflow pilot project that began in July of last year. The changes are expected to improve the eastbound traffic flow along the Kapiolani Boulevard transportation corridor.

The following will be implemented beginning Monday:

>> Left turns will be allowed from Kapiolani Boulevard westbound into Waikiki at McCully Street.

>> Left turns will be allowed from Kalakaua Avenue, mauka-bound, onto Kapiolani Boulevard.

>> Left turns will once again be restricted from Kapiolani Boulevard westbound onto Atkinson Drive.

>> Left turns will be allowed from Kapiolani Boulevard eastbound at Keeaumoku, Kaheka, and McCully Streets.

In July, the city began allowing left turns from the Kapiolani contra-flow lane at McCully Street and Atkinson Drive for a six-month study at the request of former city councilman Trevor Ozawa.
