Letter: Democratic leadership ignores working families

Many Democratic Party leaders are not upholding the values of economic justice and environmental sustainability. It seems they are more concerned with carrying water for the Chamber of Commerce.

This week will see bills in legislative conference. Our leaders have a chance to fight for Hawaii’s poorest workers in supporting a minimum wage of $15 an hour.

Gov. David Ige wants to do a favor for Alexander & Baldwin (A&B) by keeping House Bill 1326 alive after it was “deferred” due to statewide dissent. A&B wants control of central Maui’s fresh-water streams for Mahi Pono LLC. Big Business and its cash is preventing the Democratic Party from fighting for working families.
