Letter: Tommy Waters should act on Ala Moana project

Ala Moana Regional Park users have voiced their opinion on keeping the park basically the same, with some improvements. Their opinion is supported by Council member Ann Kobayashi and interim Council member Mike Formby (“Council committee voices opposition to park updates,” Star-Advertiser, April 24).

Tommy Waters will be replacing Formby. This may be an opportunity for Waters to prove to the public that he is not the mayor’s lap dog, as has been stated before, and actually team with Kobayashi to support the wishes of the public.

If past history is any proof of the projects the city takes on, future maintenance will be lacking because there will be no funds to pay for it and all the luxury improvements will just fall by the wayside.

The people who will benefit are the design specialists and contractors who will get their contracts signed by the mayor.

The public does not care about impressing all the rich people. Families just want to have a day at the beach to relax and have a safe place for their kids to swim.
