Mahealani Martin held a sign in protest of a Honolulu city and county project in Waimanalo, which the razed Sherwood Forest for a multi-purpose field, along Ala Moana Boulevard on Thursday evening. Various community groups protested at Mayor Kirk Caldwell’s State of the City address at the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Ho‘okupu Center in Kewalo Basin Harbor.

Further cutting of Sherwood Forest must be stopped now.
The mayor knows that popular opinion is against his plan, and he should use a change order to direct the contractor to replant the cleared area, using the unspent funds from the contract.
This area has been used by early Hawaiians, including burials.
The University of Hawaii should have records of a sampling dig conducted some years ago. The instructor had participating students dig test bores at plotted sites and then had these sites covered back over after recording results, keeping the sites secret.
Preserving Sherwood Forest would afford the mayor much respect.
