But like everything else, there are “people who just don’t follow the laws and procedures that we put in place,” according to Mayor Kirk Caldwell.
Just drive around the island: abandoned vehicles, illegal dumping on the side of the roads, bulky items left on curbs for weeks.
We appreciate politicians making laws, but they should follow through with enforcement. Make laws to enforce the law. If law enforcement officials lobby to pass a law, they should enforce it. Stop the selective enforcement.
If I set up a permanent tailgate party on the sidewalk, I would be arrested.
When we complain to authorities, the excuse for lax enforcement is “not enough funds and staff” or, “What do you want us to do about it?”
All we want is to have existing laws enforced, instead of piling new laws on top of existing ones.
