I’m writing to address misleading impressions created by recent news reports on the Sherwood Forest debacle.
The community has been repeatedly described as “divided” on this issue. The truth is exactly the opposite.
In the many years I’ve lived in Waimanalo, I’ve never seen the community as united as it is now. The tiny minority that once supported the project seems to have disappeared or quietly changed their minds. The community is overwhelmingly against it, as is our neighborhood board and the Kailua Neighborhood Board.
More than 18,000 people have signed a petition to stop it, but no one has signed a petition to support it. It’s obvious that the community is deeply unified on this. The only remaining “division” is between the mayor (along with the developers) and just about everyone else.
