Kudos to Ron Menor and the rest of the City Council for finally acting on the vacation rentals problem (“Council OKs 2 vacation rental bills,” Star-Advertiser, June 18). This issue has been allowed to fester to the point that it has become a monster of illegality.

The worst of it is that it has contributed to the shortage of affordable housing and consequently to homelessness. Homeowners who say they are just trying to make ends meet by short-term rentals should recognize the negative consequences of these practices.

At last we can hope for real action after decades of neglect by elected officials.
