Mahalo to the City Council for having the courage to set limits on vacation rentals (“Council OKs 2 vacation rental bills,” Star-Advertiser, June 18).
I am astounded, though, at Elite Pacific Properties threatening possible legal action. This is the company that has disrupted our neighborhoods for many years. There have been noisy and drunken pool parties at 2 a.m. and a revolving door of vacationers in our neighborhood bringing increased traffic, speeding and trespassing.
How do companies or people think there are “rights” to an illegal activity? How is a business model built on illegal activity?
Twenty percent of homes on my street rent illegally and are owned by mainland buyers who have never lived in them. Allowing local people to rent homes will greatly benefit our neighborhoods. This allows neighborhoods to become communities where we know and help one another. Allowing tourists to enjoy a vacation in a resort area, rather than a residential one, will benefit everyone.
