As any well-informed person knows, civil asset forfeiture laws are prime candidates for police abuse nationwide.

“Forfeited“ assets are frequently sold, with the proceeds misused for favored police activities. Especially with the recent corruption found in our police department, our civil asset forfeiture laws definitely need to be reformed. House Bill 748 may be “half-baked,“ but it is definitely a step in the right direction and it can be fixed later. Gov. David Ige should not veto the bill.
