A Kahaluu property owner who was charged with murder for the fatal stabbing of a 23-year-old man who was a tenant pleaded no contest in state court Thursday to manslaughter in a plea deal with the state.

As part of the deal Samuel Campiformio, 42, agreed to accept a 20-year prison term at sentencing in December and to pay restitution. He was scheduled to stand trial for murder next week.

Another one of Campiformio’s tenants called 911 after finding the body of Kenneth Ratzlaff slumped over in a pool of blood in a shipping container on Campiformio’s Ahaolelo Road property. Ratzlaff had been stabbed in the chest.

Campiformio told police he didn’t know what happened to Ratzlaff. He told them he and Ratzlaff kept tools in the shipping container.
