Perhaps President Donald Trump’s continuing contempt for the law can be more easily understood by remembering the lawyers he has chosen for his own special legal needs.
There was Roy Cohn, who seemed to be the gold standard for the traits Trump admires in an attorney. Cohn was Joseph Mc- Carthy’s chief counsel during the Army-McCarthy hearings and later a personal attorney and fixer for Trump. He was ultimately disbarred for unethical conduct.
Michael Cohen was a long-term lawyer and fixer for Trump and is currently serving a prison sentence for activities on his behalf.
Rudy Giuliani has now found himself under investigation for his involvement in mixing his business enterprises and running a shadow State Department in the Ukraine.
Finally, consider Attorney General William Barr, who loyally serves Trump on his travels to investigate a myriad of the president’s conspiracy theories. It seems a trend can be found.
