A 39-year-old pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run in Makakilo Wednesday night.

Police said the woman attempted to cross the southbound lanes of Makakilo Drive at about 6:50 p.m. when a dark-colored truck struck her in proximity to the intersection of Palailai Street.

The truck driver fled the scene.

Witnesses told police the vehicle was possibly a commercial or utility-type truck with white lettering and compartments on the side of the bed.

The pedestrian was taken to an area hospital where she died.

Police said she was not in a marked crosswalk at the time of the collision.

This is the 46 traffic-related fatality on Oahu compared to 56 at the same time last year.

The Honolulu Police Department’s Vehicular Homicide Section is investigating.

Police said there may be possible damage to the truck’s headlight area.

Anyone with information on the collision is urged to call 723-3413.
