Honolulu firefighters quickly brought a condo fire on Wilder Avenue under control Wednesday night.

Wilder Avenue was closed between Pensacola and Thurston as crews extinguished the fire.

It was reopened at around 8:15 p.m.

Neighbors said there were loud popping noises and they observed a chemical smell.

The Honolulu Fire Department reported no injuries.

The fire was reported at 1111 Wilder Ave. at around 6:30 p.m., and the first unit arrived at 6:32 p.m. It was under control at 6:48 p.m. and extinguished at 6:55 p.m.

The fire was located on the 15th floor. HFD reported that nobody was inside the unit at the time of the fire and that a man, woman and their minor son were moving in.

At least two windows were blown out, and the fire burned the exterior of the building up to the 17th floor. The ceiling of the lanai was also charred. Smoke damage can be seen around six of the unit’s windows.

The building has a fire alarm system but no sprinklers. It is not yet clear what caused the fire.
