Fire chars vacant Hilo home

Hawaii County firefighters responded to a residential fire in Hilo Sunday.

The fire broke out at an unoccupied, two-story home on Kehaulani Street at about 8:20 p.m. Seven units with 19 firefighters responded to the blaze. When they arrived, firefighters observed flames fronting the structure and on the second floor, according to the Hawaii County Fire Department.

Firefighters brought the fire under control at 8:42 p.m. and extinguished it at 9:13 p.m. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. A damage estimate has yet to be determined.
