Las Vegas Advisor: Park MGM casino reduces hours

Barely a month after reopening Park MGM announced that it’s shutting down midweek until further notice. The hotel- casino now closes at noon on Mondays and reopens at noon on Thursdays, adhering to the same schedule that’s currently in place at Encore on the north end of the Strip. Park MGM reopened as Las Vegas’ only non-smoking casino, but MGM Resorts International says that has nothing to do with the decision to cut back hours, which the company blamed on low occupancy.

Zumanity closes: The Cirque du Soleil production Zumanity, which ran at New York-New York for nearly 17 years, will not return. The show was performed more than 7,700 times since it premiered in 2003 as a groundbreaking adults-only production. However, Cirque also announced that contract extensions have been signed for five of its Las Vegas shows: Mystere, O, KA, LOVE and Michael Jackson ONE, though no return dates were cited.

Virgin dining: Virgin Las Vegas (formerly Hard Rock) has announced its lineup of restaurants. They include Hard Rock returnees Nobu, MB Steak and Pizza Forte, along with Todd English’s Olives, Night + Market, Casa Calavera, the Kitchen at Commons coffee shop, and Kassi Beach Club, a combination restaurant and ultra lounge by the pool.

Question: With the fireworks canceled, have there been any substitutions put in place for New Year’s Eve?

Answer: Top lounge band Zowie Bowie will perform from Circa’s Stadium Swim pool complex in an event that will be televised in major cities throughout the west on Nexstar-owned stations. Zowie Bowie will be joined by a lineup of top Las Vegas showroom performers. Only a small group of invited guests will be allowed to attend the performance in person.
