WAILUKU >> An 82-year-old woman who was walking on a sidewalk when she was hit by a car reversing from a driveway in Waikapu June 28 has died as a result of her injuries, according to Maui police.
The collision occurred around 7:35 a.m. when a red 2003 Ford four-door sedan operated by a 17-year-old was backing out of a private driveway onto Moolu Circle, police said. Johana Manna was knocked down and sustained head injuries. She was taken in critical condition to Maui Memorial Medical Center in Wailuku and was later released from the hospital. However, she died July 8.
There have been eight traffic fatalities in Maui County so far this year compared to six at the same time last year.
