Age is nothing but a number for six people who were declared "forever young" by the city.

Recipients of this year’s Honolulu Forever Young Awards were: Wally Amos, chief executive officer of Chip and Cookie; Hooipo DeCambra, housing director for Waianae Coast Community Mental Health Center; Reginald Ho, oncologist at Straub Hospital & Clinic; Patti Lyons, historian and secretary of the Consuelo Foundation; Michael Town, Circuit Court judge; and Jackie Young, chief staff officer for mission at the American Cancer Society.

This is the third year for the award, which takes cumulative success of people’s careers, contributions to the community and healthy lifestyles into consideration for the selecting process. Applicants need to be 65 years of age or older and exemplify "successful living."

This year, a new Oihana Maikai Award was created to honor Linda Wong, president of World of Aloha. She met the criteria and was highly favored by the judges, but was not eligible for consideration because of her affiliation with program sponsors.

The winners will be honored at an awards luncheon at the Hawaii Prince Hotel on Oct. 6. For information and tickets to the luncheon, call 768-7760.
