PEARL NOW OPEN: Every season, diners look forward to the opening of The Pearl, Leeward Community College’s fine-dining restaurant, which supports the work of advanced culinary students in cooking, baking, special events planning and dining room management. The Pearl is open to the public on a limited basis each semester, with a menu of contemporary cuisine. The restaurant is now open 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays for lunch service through Dec. 3. For menus, visit www.leeward.hawaii.edu/thepearl. Reserve at 455-0475. Special events include a Thanksgiving buffet to be offered Nov. 17 through 19, and a Chef Showcase Dinner on Nov. 12. The showcase four-course dinner without wine pairings is $70, or $85 with wine pairings. Reserve at 455-0298. Note: The Pearl will be closed Oct. 13 to 15, 20, 22 and 26; Nov. 10 to 12, and Nov. 24 to 26.

ALL THE PANCAKES YOU CAN EAT: It’s said you should start the day with breakfast, but when and how much a person needs varies. Wailana Coffee House offers breakfast 24/7 and value in the form of a $6.35 special breakfast featuring two eggs, two strips of bacon and as many pancakes as you care to eat. Call 955-1764.

"LIQUID ALOHA BREWERS DINNER": The Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and Kona Brewing Company will host a special dinner from 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 24. Seven food stations will be offering such dishes as kalua pig "Mauna Kea" with bao bun, fried green tomato sliders, coco loco braised shortribs, artisan desserts and more, with unlimited drinks, all for $40.
