Clinic with BMX Olympian

Mike Day, the BMX silver medalist at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, is the featured clinician tomorrow at the Sandbox BMX track on Sand Island.

Day also won the 2007 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup in Salt Lake City. The cost is $25 per rider.

Pre-registration for Paddle Expo

Discounted registration for the inaugural World Paddle Expo on the Ala Wai Canal on Oct. 3 is available online until 9 a.m. Oct. 2.

The cost is $35 for junior (17-and-under), $65 for open and $80 for elite division. It is an additional $20 per division through race day.

The entry fee is good for all six paddling disciplines: OC1, surfski, kayak, SUP, paddleboards and V1 (rudderless OC1). Water craft for the 200-meter sprint races will be provided.

New events at Ko Olina festival

Next month’s Ko Olina Sports & Fitness Festival will include four new events in addition to its annual sprint triathlon.

Debuting are the Xtreme golf challenge and keiki triathlon for ages 7 to 10 on Oct. 23. A four-lagoon swim and a 10K road race. are on Oct. 24, the same days as the sprint triathlon.

Participants in Xtreme golf play a traditional round of golf but are also aiming to complete the round in the shortest amount of time, which will require running from shot to shot. The keiki triathlon begins at 7 a.m. and is comprised of a 100-meter swim, 5-kilometer bike ride and 1-kilometer run.

The Lagoon Challenge is a 660-meter swim and includes some running to and from each of the four lagoons. The 10-kilometer road race travels through the resort and golf club areas.

The festival includes a health and fitness expo at the JW Marriott Ihilani Resorts & Spa Lagoon. There is also an athletes welcome on Oct. 22.
